Here is a great post I wanted to share with my readers for Mother’s Day.
I thought it was very fitting with Mother’s Day this sunday to share this bit of advice I learned from my mother. I didn’t always think It was good advice and didn’t always follow it, but looking back it really helped pave me into the woman I am today. Even if I wasn’t following the advice and tips right at the time it was always in the back of my mind and would become very useful in many situations I would later be in.
#1 Follow Your Dreams: Life is too short to settle! You have to go after what fuels your passions and the rest will fall into place. Without that bit of advice and support I might have just settled for second best and would not have been able to help people each and everyday through fitness.
#2 Someday you will thank me: At the time this is one of the last things you want to hear. I went to a private school and I remember my friends getting new shoes, expensive clothes, cars etc… My mom was a single mom and didn’t have the luxury to get the fancy things. I use to cry and ask “why can’t I just have …” and she would always follow the comment with “Someday you will thank me”. And lo and behold boy do I! I learned the value of hard work, I learned you work for what you earn, and I learned materialistic things do not fill you or make you any happier.
#3 Never fear failure, fear not ever failing: My mom would always say If I didn’t fail I would not be the person I am today. My failures have led to my greatest success’ and have been some of my biggest learning curves. A lot of her success came from learning what not to do next time.
#4 Believe in Yourself: I don’t think there was a day that went by without my mom telling me how much she loved me, how great she thought I was, how my talents would lead me to do some great things in this life etc… Still to this day she is always filling my ego telling me and others how proud she is of me. She at times has believed in me more than myself and I am so thankful for that. Without that belief I might have given up or fallen short, but knowing how great she thought I was made me believe it too and persevere.
#5 Leave a Legacy: You only have one life and you need to leave your mark on this planet while you are here. This has probably been the greatest advice I have received and put into use. This keeps me pushing through when all I want to do is relax, this allows me to be thankful and humble knowing I am here on earth for a purpose! This makes me want to get better each day and reach for the stars. Last but not least this makes me believe anything in life is possible if you put your mind and your work ethic into it!
Thank you mom and to all the mom’s out there for all your words of wisdom!
We are so lucky to have such empowering, loving, caring women leading us, mentoring us, and believing in us each day!
Happy Early Mother’s Day so happy I get to share with you in person!
