There is so much information out there. There are so many magazines, blog posts, television shows, etc … that all have conflicting views on what “Healthy” really means. Is it juicing, calorie restricting, no carb, raw food, gluten-free? All of the above or none of them?
The information out there is candy coating the ultimate problem; there’s a reason the word “die” is in diet because it’s not attainable.
For every article you read that says gluten is bad there are ten others that say it isn’t. Some articles say don’t eat after five while others say your body has no time clock. So what is the best? How do we know if what we are doing is helping us or ultimately hurting us?
Here is a great article that I came across in the Nytimes that goes hand in hand with this topic.
When educating my clients on this topic I like to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) it. What grows from the ground and has a soul it can be eaten. If it is processed in some way, has additives, or was some how made by a machine DON’T eat it!
Now this is simple not easy, with products so mass-produced. My advice is shop on the outside of the grocery store, drink lots of water, and avoid any bright-colored packaging.
My husband has a great analogy, there is a reason that you don’t see “gluten-free” on a banana or “low-fat” on broccoli because that is assumed.
So choose foods that fuel your body and eat quality foods like veggies, proteins, and fruits. Your body will begin to crave more of the good stuff with the more vitamin and mineral enriched foods that you ingest. You will also feel satisfied and look great on the inside and out.
What are some diet fads that you partook in?
