It seems like more and more companies are coming out with “protein bars”. If you look on the shelves there are 100’s to choose from; but which ones are really beneficial and which ones are packaged garbage?
Most protein bars are highly processed, even featuring artificial ingredients and fillers and more chemicals than actual real substances.
I have a lot of clients that rely on protein bars as snacks, and although I am not a big advocate of using protein bars as snacks or meals here are 5 good choices for you to choose from when you are in a bind.
#1 Larabar – These are delicious and have no added preservatives or flavoring. They are made from a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. They have some great flavors too. My personal favorites are blueberry muffin, cashew cookie, peanut butter cookie, and peanut butter & jelly.
#2 Cliff’s Kits Organic Bar – These delicious treats are very similar to the lara bar and by that I mean they have no additives and are certified organic, gluten, soy, and dairy free as well. My personal favorites are the peanut butter and cashew flavors.
#3 Paleo Bars – These delicious treats are perfect for those of you on the go. I suggest keeping these in your car or purse so that if you are in a bind you know you can have a healthy go to snack.
#4 Kind Bars – These bars are all natural, gluten-free, and non-GMO. They have fantastic variety as well and are very filling.
#5 Perfect Food Bar – Although these are a little on the pricey side, they are delicious and super satisfying. They have no refined sugar, high in fiber and omega 3’s, and gluten-free. My favorite flavors are carob chip and almond butter.
Now you have the tools to make good choices when a snack is calling your name.
