A lot of the women I train are moms, they have been very dedicated day after day to being the best mother they can be for their kids. They work hard in and out of their homes, volunteering at school, making lunches, helping with homework, driving to sporting practices, games etc.. the list goes on and on. Many of these women have dedicated so much to their children that in the midst of it all lost sight of themselves.
Many of you don’t know I have a sister who is 8 years old. We are 21 years apart (yep that’s right 21 years), and she is my world so I can only imagine how my mom must feel about her. I have watched my mom struggle with finding herself and not just being a “mom” to my sister.
Over this past year she has really taken control and made a conscious effort to prioritize things that are important to hear for her health and well-being; boy has it paid off!
Along with my mother these group of women have all taken the plunge and made their health and wellness a priority, and little did they know not only the impact it has had on them, but the positive impact it had on their families!
These moms are able to be more active with their children, instead of coming home turning on the tv and fixing dinner, they are running around in the backyard and not allowing television during the week. They are more attentive and have more patience, because they are releasing endorphins, and getting proper nutrition which is not leaving them angry and sluggish :]
These examples are all fantastic, but what has really touched me the most is seeing their children follow in their footsteps. We have all heard the saying Monkey see Monkey do and this is a perfect example. These kids are doing better in school, they have positive attitudes, and they as well as their moms are making fitness a priority. When kids see their parents doing something fun they want to do it as well and what is great is seeing these kids having fun working out!
My sister comes home from school and the first thing she asks is “Do you want to do a workout”? This of course is music to my ears, but I think of what an example my mother and I have set for her. It is not normal for my sister to come home plop on the couch and eat junk food. She wants to workout then do her homework, followed by an activity she is involved in. It is abnormal for her to not be active and eat to feel good.
The same has taken place with other mom’s children as well. Kids are creating workouts in the backyard and making healthier choices, and these families are becoming closer because of it. They are cooking together, working out together, and playing together!
I congratulate you moms! You are not only inspiring your children you are inspiring mothers around the world to make a change! You prove you can be an even better mother by putting your health first and I applaud you for that!
Lead by example and you never know the people who you will touch…..
