This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a Yoga Conference in Minneapolis MN. I was very excited at first, but then a little hesitant when I saw the lineup of courses to attend this weekend.
In the past I have not been very open to many different practices, I have always wanted to just stick with my “Yoga for Athletes/Vinyasa” mentality. Basically if I didn’t feel I could get a workout from it, what was the point?
I have slowly opened my eyes and ears (finding meditation has expanded my horizons for sure), to new things but still not stepping out of the “Comfort Zone”; until now.
This weekend I got the opportunity to experience and explore many different yoga styles, practices, workshops all out of my “yoga comfort zone”.
I also got to practice with one of my favorite people in the yoga world Tara Stiles. She was so down-to-earth, genuine, and knowledgeable. She had a lot that I could add to my practice.
I also took my first Ashtanga Yoga practice that was 2 hours long (also a first), it was amazing and my body felt incredible. I worked out in a way I had not experienced before and I really enjoyed it!
From there I attended an Inversions workshop and a Yoga Body Image and You workshop (WAY outside the box).
What I was most impressed by, is the amount of information I got to take in, people to interact with from all walks of life, and becoming open to new practices outside my box.
There is so much in life we can learn from and so much to be discovered if we just step out of our comfort zone and try something new.
Be open to things that are uncomfortable, be accepting of new opportunity, and seek new ways to live life outside the box.
