Maybe you’re having a party with the neighborhood or school friends or plan to just walk the neighborhood. Whatever your plans, remember that just because it’s a holiday doesn’t mean you have to gorge on Halloween snacks and let all that hard work be put to the side for those dangerous bite size treats.
Try these tips to make your Halloween fun, safe, and healthy for you, your family, and all your trick or treaters.
Pre Eat Before You Trick or Treat:
Eat a well-balanced healthy dinner before the fun begins, this way you and the kids will not be as tempted to eat candy along the way.
After trick or treating, offer one small piece of candy as a treat and a nice glass of paleo hot cocoa. This will be a nice balanced treat and will not leave you with a sugar hangover in the morning.
Exercise While Trick or Treating:
Instead of driving your kids, find a neighborhood where you can spend most of the night walking. This will not only where the children down so they might fall asleep before they can even get home to separate the candy.
Hand out non sugary foods:
Like play dough, temporary tattoos, pencils, or fun little toys. This way you are not tempted to sneak some and the kids will still enjoy these items just as much.
Make Your Candy a Charitable Contribution:
When children get back home from trick-or-treating, have them take 5 pieces of their favorite candy and place the rest in a box. Consider donating the second pile to a local senior citizens home, food pantry, Ronald McDonald House, or children’s hospital. Now you can feel good-by doing a good deed for a cause and your body.
With these helpful tips you will still have a very enjoyable Halloween without the negative side effects.
