Yesterday was the big V day… A time of year for restaurants, card, floral, and jewelry stores to make boocoo bucks. As couples “share”their love for each other on this glorious day….
but why?
Why do we put so much pressure on “ONE” day to show the people we care about most that we love them?
My husband and I were in a grocery store on Monday night. We had just gotten off the plane and wanted to grab a few things for the week. In the store it was complete Valentine’s Day mayhem. People were scrabbling for cards, baked goods, treats, flowers, etc… I heard one guy in the store say “l don’t care what I have as long as I come home with something!”
I feel as people we are hard-wired this way ….. I am starting my diet on Monday so I am going to gorge on Sunday. I am going to go on a shopping spree because I got a bonus. I am going to get you balloons, flowers, jewelry and cake for Valentine’s Day, but I am going to act like an ahole for the rest of the year?
So I ask you Fit Ones… why can’t we spread the love throughout the year? Why can’t we maintain a way of eating that is attainable for long-term success?
This year my husband and I decided not to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I have never been a huge advocate anyways, but we just acted as if it were a normal Tuesday in February. No Facebook shout outs, no texts, no dinners, no presents, and NO PROBLEMS either.
My husband shows me how much he loves me, on many days and we celebrate our love every Wednesday or as we like to call it “Date Night”. I want you to look at your lives and really see where balance can be added. Don’t have the all or nothing attitude, keep daily rituals, eat well 80% of the time, if you get a bonus buy a shirt you like and save the rest.
Life is about balance and the more balance we have, the more successful we will be long-term.
So, Fit Ones where do you want to get more balance in 2012?
