With the Summer months in full effect. Many of us our being taken out of our normal routine, do to vacations, nice weather happy hours, wanting to be outdoors instead of inside a gym etc…
Well here are ten workouts to enjoy outside and on vacation. Now you can enjoy your vacation or neighborhood but not feel guilty for taking time off from the gym!
1. GO FOR A hike or walk: Seriously, this is a great workout (especially with friends). You get to enjoy nature and the beautiful surroundings, but also the benefits of a good workout too.
2. Hold an impromptu workout class in your backyard/at a nearby park. Gather a few of your close friends, plug your iPod into some speakers, and take turns calling out moves to do for 20-30 minutes. Squats, pushups, burpees, etc ….. This way you are having fun and getting fit!
3. Look for classes being held at local parks. I just googled “outdoor fitness class [my city]” and a few options popped up.
4. Do some body weight interval training outdoors. Set up 5 stations …. Station 1 is burpees , station 2 is squats, station 3 is mountain climbers, station 4 is pushups, station 5 is jumping jacks jumps.
5. Try a stadium stair workout. Head to your local high school’s track/football field for drill workouts. I used to do this all the time. Run a few laps around the track as a warm up, and then run the stairs. This is convenient and killer!
6. Do your interval training outdoors. Instead of a walk or jog, alternate 1-2 minutes of high-intensity intervals (all-out effort) with 2-3 minutes of recovery. Repeat 5-6 times for a short, but intense, outdoor workout.
7. Channel your inner kid and do a jungle gym workout. Here’s another park workout that requires less equipment, but a killer workout!
8. Aqua Jog, Bike, or Run: Go for a run in the water, or take your bike and enjoy the scenery, and/or throw on your running shoes and check out all the local visuals your city has to offer!
9. Practice outdoor yoga (or Pilates). Grab a towel ( or a mat if its accessible), and take in that all the outdoors has to offer!
10. Rent a Paddleboard: if you are on the lake, ocean, river or any body of water: This is a fantastic workout, and has the most amazing view while you are doing it. Go to your local sporting goods store, or google how to “rent” paddleboards for the day and I guarantee you will not only enjoy it but get a killer workout in the process!
Enjoy your vacations and your workouts!
