I have a lot of clients that come to me after a holiday weekend, feeling sluggish, sick, bloated, and not well overall.
Most of them say the same thing I figured if I were to do it I might as well DO IT! Why do we continue to have the mentality of “Go Big or Go Home” (the all or nothing) attitude?
Well here are some helpful tips to still enjoy and have fun without feeling that you’ve been hit by a semi the next day. The key is BALANCE and with these tips you will be on your way to having fun but still feeling fabulous inside and out!
1. Drink at least 80 ounces of water throughout the day. This will help flush out any toxins that you will put in your body and help you stay hydrated throughout the day. My husband and I have a rule, for every alcoholic drink you have you can’t order another drink till you have downed a glass of water.
2. Stay Active – Make the festivities fun by adding some volleyball, tennis, relay races, walking etc… This way you do not feel like you are working out, and you are still having fun!
3. Make it worth it. Don’t just take things to take them. Look at what they menu is and decide what it is that you really can’t live without! i.e. don’t take for takes sake! If you are craving some pie have a small slice and let that be your cheat. Don’t eat the whole dessert table!
4. Bring something healthy. Anytime I go to a bbq or festivity I always bring something healthy that I like and then I know at least I will have something I like if there is nothing else for me to eat!
5. Balance – I always tell my clients to look at the way you eat as a bank. The more deposits you make the more money you have (good foods), the more you withdrawal (bad foods) the less you have. If you have a treat balance it with something healthy! That way you are depositing more than withdrawing!
6. Drink Wisely…. Avoid beers (gluten-free is ok), and heavy sugar filled cocktails. These drinks will leave you bloated and unhappy the next day! Make your drinks with soda water and a splash of something (like grapefruit, oj, cran, sprite etc…) this way you still get the taste but have 1/2 the calories and no hangover!
These tips will allow to still have a great holiday weekend but without the holiday hangover!
Be safe and have a great weekend!
