It’s Labor Day weekend, which marks the unofficial last days of summer. Why does this make us feel we need to over indulge and throw our health and fitness out the window?
With many fun activities including bbq’s, parties, beach/lake fun, travel it can be very easy to let ourselves off the hook, but feel bloated, unhappy, and left asking the question to ourselves “why did I do that”?
Probably the most difficult challenge will be good healthy food choices. There are a couple of tips for you to stay on track and still have a wonderful time. You can bring your own sides, the good thing about bbq’s you can have the protein they are bbq’ing and then have some good healthy sides you brought. If you are not sure what the menu will look like ..Pre eat. Now you will not be as hungry and not as tempted to make bad choices.
If you are going on a trip pack healthy snacks such as beef jerky, lara bars, fruit, veggies, sparkling waters and water. Now you will reach for healthy choices which will keep you satisfied longer.
Desserts: Either bring your own or just take a small bite and move on. It will taste the same regardless if it is one bite or a whole pie. You can also reach for the fruit bowl for a refreshing and delicious treat that will keep you feeling great and satisfied!
Don’t go hungry. When you’re attending a cookout or barbecue where you know unhealthy food will be prevalent, have a healthy meal or snack beforehand. That way you won’t arrive at the party completely ravenous and eat whatever is in sight.
BYOB: My friends like to joke with me and call me the traveling bar. Wherever I go I bring my own booze. I want to have fun just like the rest ..Drink Wisely…. Avoid beers (gluten-free is ok), and heavy sugar filled cocktails. These drinks will leave you bloated and unhappy the next day! Make your drinks with tequila blanca, potato based vodka, or bacardi (such a limn o etc … soda water and a splash of something (like grapefruit, oj, cran, sprite etc…) this way you still get the taste but have 1/2 the calories and no hangover! Also day drinking is much better you will then ensure an early bedtime and a full nights rest leaving feeling peppy in the am.
Now you have the tools you need to make this Labor Day Fun and Fit all in one ..
