I just finished reading a fabulous book by Mel Robbins called the “5 Second Rule”. The synopsis is to help you get out of your rut and on to the path of greatness, you just need 5 seconds!
Our Brains are wired to be complacent and lazy and we need to get out of the habit of “expecting” to get motivated and get off the couch and go seek motivation!
With the simple trick of counting yourself down in 5-4-3-2-1 you can literally turn your laziness into your motivational drive.
If you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning, as soon as your alarm goes off start counting 5-4-3-2-1 and get up. When you are dreading your workout, count 5-4-3-2-1 and just start moving!
When you want a second drink count backyards and order a water or step away from the bottle.
When you feel scared or anxious about talking to your husband, boss, friend etc ..count backwards and start talking!
By counting down we distract ourselves from over thinking it and focus in on acting on it. And that countdown pushes our front cortex in our brain to act and we do it!
And you know what the best part it?
It works, and can change your life forever!
