We hear so many conflicting views when it comes to corn. Some say it is the worst thing ever while others praise it and say it is the most amazing vegetable ever.
So which is it?
When we educate our clients and members about nutrition and incorporating more vegetables into their diet, one of the most common questions is “can we have corn” or “why can’t we have corn” … It grows from the ground just like other beneficial vegetables so how harmful can it be …. and is corn even really a vegetable?
Corn causes a lot of confusion, just the way corn is grown and marketed, it is one of those foods that’s difficult to place into one category. If you went by corn’s location in the grocery store, it seems like it is a vegetable as it lies with all the other beautiful greens (i.e. broccoli, spinach, cabbage etc); when in actuality it’s a grain.
We preach to our clients why to avoid grains …. and if this doesn’t sway you, try this on for size. Most corn contain GMO’s which have been proven to be very detrimental to our overall health and wellness.
So Fit Ones if you want an ear of corn every now and then, have an ear of corn, but don’t make this food a staple in your diet and think you are consuming your “vegetables”.
Luckily we have so many wonderful other good quality foods and vegetables to choose from in this list. Now you will have many other choices that will leave you just as happy and really healthy!
