We are all creatures of habit. We typically get up at the same time …. do our am routine, go to work, the gym, carpool etc and then go on with our daily duties ….
Consistency and routine brings comfort and a feeling of ease to each and everyone of us, even if that comfort and ease might prevent us from stepping out of our box and trying something new and fun….
This past weekend we went to the Lake for the 4th. I have grown up on this lake and I have never missed a summer in 32 years. I had the opportunity growing up to be able to stay for most of the summer and enjoy all that the lake has to offer (which is another blog in itself).
Growing up we lived in the lake. I remember waking up eating breakfast throwing on my suit and jumping in the water. It didn’t matter if it was cold, overcast, sometimes even rainy we wouldn’t allow that to stop our fun.
As I have gotten older I have ventured further and further from the actual lake. I would watch people swim, jet ski, kayak etc and did not choose to participate, as that would take me out of my comfort zone.
What if it was cold? I didn’t want to get my hair wet, or have to shower again, etc… Whatever the excuse it was preventing me from having the most fun I could like when I was a child.
Well this weekend our friend brought over a paddle board to use. I have said that I really wanted to try it out for the past few summers and here was my chance to take that step and literally dive in …
I had my friends and family watching and I was not going to let this opportunity pass me by. I didn’t have any clue what I was doing (which I admit was a little scary) but I trusted the fact that I was fully capable, coordinated, and strong enough to figure it out; so I hopped on.
At first it was scary and it was hard to balance and find your center on the board and paddle at the same time but with a little practice .. I got it. Just like anything, the more I paddled the better I felt and the braver I became. We started doing fun yoga poses (which gave me a whole new appreciation for paddle board yogi’s) and even doing tandem paddling.
I had the time of my life, got my hair wet, and challenged myself to do something out of my comfort zone and the results were so rewarding.
Now I can say I tried something I have wanted to for the past few years, laughed a lot, and challenged myself all while having fun.
I challenge you Fit Ones to take yourself out of your comfort zone and live a little. You will realize how much you are truly capable of if you only take the leap and “get on the board and paddle”. …..
